Doctor Who: A New Companion

It's hard to describe as a fan how I felt coming into this episode. You know that weird feeling you get when you start a new book without finishing the one you were reading before? Kind of like you're cheating? Well, that's how I feel every time a new Doctor or companion is introduced. One might also liken it unto ending a relationship in which you are still very much invested.

Some transitions between Doctors and their companions were more graceful than others.  Rose helped us bridge the gap between 9 and 10 by being the only companion in the modern series to stay with a doctor through his regeneration. When 11 was introduced, however, the entire series was rebooted. New doctor. New companion. New writing staff. New TARDIS. We were able to deal with it though, because it felt like, for the first time since Rose, the Doctor had a family. Now we are faced with another huge shift as the Ponds leave. I wondered: would we have a refreshing, witty duo like 10 and Donna, or will the two be a flop like 10 and Martha? (Admit it. You were kind of relieved when she left.) OR is there still room in our hearts for another Rose or Amy?

Les Miserables: A Cynic Softened

It seems fitting that my first review would be on one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year because I know how long you all have waited for me to start a blog like this. No... but, really, it just happens to be the movie I was watching today when my brain decided to start this blog.

So...Les Miserables. I will be the first to admit, when this movie was announced, I went to the dark place imagining everything that could and probably would go wrong with this movie from the casting, to the costume choices. Things got worse when the cast was gradually announced and Broadway.com falsely reported the role of Eponine had been given to Taylor Swift.

While the T. Swift rumor proved to be false, I was equally disenchanted with the idea of Anne Hathaway as Fantine. I knew she could sing...after all, she gave that stirring performance of "Somebody to Love" in Ella Enchanted and actually sang with Hugh Jackman at the Oscars. Don't remember? Probably because neither performance was particularly memorable.

BUT. You guys. Anne Hathaway is a star in this film.

The Beginning of...Something

So...here it is. I've decided to start yet another blog that I will probably never update. Basically today my brain was like, "Hey...you know what would be super awesome and unique? A blog where you write whatever you're thinking about that TV show you just watched. Everyone will LOVE it." I don't know, call it my New Year's Resolution to write more. Like most resolutions, this will last a week. If I accept it now, maybe I won't hate myself as much when it happens.

So...read my blog, don't read my blog...I don't really care. Just be grateful I've found an outlet for my random thoughts that doesn't clutter your news feed on Facebook. You're welcome.

Aaaaand....GO!
